Pregnancy pre-natal vitamins are vital to the health and development of any baby growing inside the womb and they are most important for pregnant women because their bodies are going through changes literally every single day during their pregnancies.

A pregnant woman’s diet in this day and age is more than often deficient in the vitamins and minerals that are crucial for both mother and child but thanks to pre-natal vitamins she can get the vitamins that she needs in one easy to take vitamin. Most prenatal vitamins contain essential vitamins and minerals like A, D, E and Folic Acid which is crucial for a babies brain and spinal column development while in utero. A woman should continue to take a daily prenatal vitamin after her baby is born so she can replenish the vitamins and minerals her body lost after giving birth plus continuing a daily prenatal regimen is also important form women who have the desire to breastfeed their babies.

The Best Foods To Eat During Pregnancy

Besides taking a daily prenatal vitamin a pregnant woman should also be eating foods in her diet that can supply her body with the vitamins and minerals that she will need during her pregnancy. Some of the best foods to eat and drink during pregnancy are yogurt, orange juice, broccoli, lentils, figs, avocados, DHA eggs, edamame (cooked soybeans), mangoes, nuts, red peppers, spinach and of course milk.

What Foods To Avoid During Pregnancy

Every pregnant woman will get her cravings for certain foods during the day or night. Before sending her spouse or partner out during the middle of the day or night to satisfy those cravings it’s important to know which foods she should avoid during pregnancy.

Deli Cut Meat – Many people love having a fresh made deli sandwich because sometimes deli meats can “hit the spot” when you’re craving meat but deli meat can also become contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that can cause miscarriage. Recent studies have shown that pregnant women are twenty times more likely to become infected with listeria than non-pregnant women. If a woman is going to buy deli cut meat during her pregnancy she should take that meat home and cook it, until it’s boiling, before she eats it.

Certain Types Of Fish – Even though eating fish can be a healthy party of a non-pregnant woman’s daily diet she needs to avoid many types of fish that are high in mercury during her pregnancy. The fish to avoid during pregnancy are: shark, swordfish, mackerel and tile fish. Smoked swordfish and raw shellfish should also be avoided during pregnancy.

Use Common Sense When Preparing Meals

Besides taking pregnancy prenatal vitamins, one of the best things that a woman can do to ensure the best possible health for herself and her baby during pregnancy is making sure that the food she is going to eat has been properly cooked and prepared before she sits down to eat. Unwashed vegetables are one of the most common causes of toxoplasmosis and undercooked meat is the most common cause of listeria.
